Hoof Distortion: A Mere Blemish, or Cause for Concern? | Jenny Edwards & Paige Poss

About the Book

Hoof Distortion: A Mere Blemish, or Cause for Concern? uses comparative anatomy and detailed dissection photography to examine common hoof distortions such as cracks, flares, long toes, and distorted hairlines.

Jenny Edwards and Paige Poss look beyond the external appearance of the hoof to show how changes in shape can relate to the structures beneath. The book is designed to help readers recognize signs of distortion, better understand what may be happening internally, and appreciate the long-term effects of maintaining a distorted hoof.

About the Authors

Jenny Edwards is a hoof-care professional, author, educator, and graphic designer with a long-standing interest in equine biomechanics and hoof health. Her work in hoof care grew from her experience with a laminitic horse, leading her to study natural horse keeping, equine dentistry, and biomechanics and to focus heavily on client education.

Paige Poss has a degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University and a background working as a research technician in biochemistry, toxicology, physiology, and nutrition. Her interest in hoof care developed into an extensive study of anatomy; she has dissected and photographed hundreds of lower limbs and is known for using detailed imagery and easy-to-understand explanations to teach complex anatomical concepts.

Together, Edwards and Poss formed Anatomy of the Equine, combining comparative anatomy, dissection photography, graphic design, and education to help readers better understand the structures and function of the horse.
