Exploring Laminitis 1 | Jenny Edwards & Paige Poss
About the Book
Exploring Laminitis 1 uses comparative anatomy to examine the differences between a relatively healthy hoof and one affected by severe, chronic laminitis with capsular rotation. Detailed dissection photography, radiographs, and illustrations reveal how laminitis can alter both the internal structures and external appearance of the hoof.
By moving through the hoof layer by layer, Jenny Edwards and Paige Poss show how changes in blood flow, laminae, sole position, coffin bone orientation, and other structures contribute to the distortion seen in chronic laminitic feet.
What You'll Explore
- Healthy and compromised blood flow within the hoof
- Different types of coffin bone rotation
- External changes associated with chronic laminitis
- Coffin bone location and orientation within the hoof capsule
- Damage and distortion of the laminae and coronary corium
- Changes to the digital cushion and surrounding soft tissues
- Migration of bruising through the sole
- Displacement of the sole and stretched white line
- Bone loss, remodeling, and changes to the coffin bone

About the Authors
Jenny Edwards is a hoof-care professional, author, educator, and graphic designer whose interest in hoof health grew from caring for a horse affected by laminitis. Her studies expanded into natural horse keeping, equine dentistry, biomechanics, and client education.
Paige Poss holds a degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University and has a background in scientific research. Her interest in hoof care developed into an extensive study of equine anatomy, and she has dissected and photographed hundreds of lower limbs to create educational images that make complex anatomical concepts easier to understand.
Together, Edwards and Poss formed Anatomy of the Equine, combining comparative anatomy, dissection photography, graphic design, and education to help hoof-care professionals and horse owners better understand the structures and function of the horse.
