Does it bond to the sole?
Yes, it bonds to the sole. For better performance and force distribution, Glue U advises using mesh over the mesh and urethane pad material.
Do I need a special caulking gun?
Not necessarily. Glue U 250 cc cartridges fit a regular silicone caulking gun. A special gun is only needed for alternative packaging like the 210 cc.
